Queensland Branch Meeting September 2021

A message and update from AADS Committee Member, Nichole Wilson:

We would like to support you all in this time of uncertainty. If you are struggling and need any help please reach out to the AADS Committee.

We are doing features on the web page of our members so if you would like to feature your business drop a line about your workshop and what is happening in your area, also if you have machines or products that need to be sold contact us at aads@aads.com.au.

The QLD Branch is going strong, we are going to have another Branch meeting on November 13th and 14th 2020. We will be doing this at the Oaks Oasis Sunshine Coast. All welcome to attend and email invitations will be issued 6 weeks prior. Save the date!

As one of the supporters of the QLD Branch we would like to shout out to the guys of Forch, they presented a great meet on Fraser Island with great products and discount for our members. We are hoping that these guys will get on board for our National meet as well. Our members can support these guys by purchasing from them.

AADS NZ Branch Update

The AADS NZ Branch have decided this year to fundraise for Child Cancer Foundation through their fundraiser Wig Wednesday on 9 September 2020. Lets Get Wiggy to raise some money for kids with Cancer. Every week three families in NZ will hear the devastating news that their child has cancer and Chemotherapy means that some of these kids will face the world with no hair, which is why we have decided to get Wiggy and show our support for these kids! We have decided to ask members to get in behind Wig Wednesday by asking each workshop to throw their own Wig Wednesday in their workshops. To add a bit of fun to it, there will be a prize for the workshop who raises the most money for this cause, which all going well will be presented at this years conference. Please take plenty of photos so we can advertise the shit out of this once we are done.

A “team” is setup for collective fundraising and the link can be found at the bottom of this email. Simply join the team, feel free to get as many of your staff as possible to join the team and donations can be made through the team link, along with cash also if that suits.

At this stage, we have set a fundraising target of $2000 which we think is achievable if we can get as many members behind it as possible.

US-based Company being fined $850.000.00 and Interesting Developments

An interesting article on a US-based Company being fined $850.000.00 for selling and installing emission delete devices.

Really interesting developments. The rumours are that the Australian and New Zealand Governments are looking at some form of legislation around performance modifications to ECU, DPF, and any other emission controls.

Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association

We are delighted to welcome the announcement of a forthcoming Mandatory Data Sharing Law for automotive repair and service.

This announcement is the culmination of tireless work to push for Government action to address this important competition issue. It shows the remarkable ability of our industry to put competitive rivalries aside and work together to achieve a positive outcome.

Assistant Treasurer Hon. Michael Sukkar has announced in the letter linked below that he will progress mandatory data sharing scheme to primary legislation in the form of a Mandatory Data Sharing Law for the sharing of vehicle service and repair information on fair and reasonable commercial terms.

This new Law will provide greater certainty for the sector and promises a robust dispute resolution process. It will level the playing field in the industry and allow consumers to have their vehicle safely repaired by the repairer of their choice.

What happens next? Well we have much still to do. Treasury is drafting the law and we need to make sure it does what we need – force the car companies to make information available and penalise those that do not play by the rules. We need to have an industry body that monitors the law, resolves disputes and recommends serious enforcement action if any car companies think that they are above the law.

For now we have a Government commitment to create and introduce this Law – that’s huge and we should celebrate the wins along the way. I want to thank everyone again for this incredible achievement.
